Why would I be interested in theatre? I don't know anything about it.
You know a lot more than you think! Theatre is at the root of some of the most popular forms of entertainment around. Stage dramas and musicals have long been breeding grounds for movies. Stage musicals also fuel some of the hottest soundtracks around.
But...isn't theatre boring?
Short answer. No! Theatre is a vibrant experience –a visual, aural, emotional feast that electrifies the senses. Its stories lift the spirit and tear at our heartstrings. It's also a shared, social experience. There's nothing like the buzz and energy of a packed theatre, collectively gripped by what's happening on stage. It's live, real and in the moment!
Okay, but isn't theatre expensive?
Do a little price shopping. You'll soon discover that a ticket to the Fortune Theatre is a true entertainment bargain, especially if you compare it with the cost of a ticket to a live music concert. Single tickets to Fortune shows can be had for as little as $24.50 (when you become a Member of our Members' Society). And we provide a generous discount for students and school groups.
Do I have to dress up?
No. We want our audiences to feel comfortable. There was a time when people thought they had to dress up for the theatre–and there's still no harm in that–but nowadays you'll find audience members in everything from jeans to gowns. Dress up, dress down. Express your individuality.

Ticket Information
Your ticket will have quite a bit of information printed on it. It has your allocated seats,
the name, date and time of the performance. It will also have your name and telephone
number on it. There is a booking reference number that you can quote to us if you
have any problems. We can also see who sold the tickets to you.
Theatre auditoriums
The Fortune has two theatre spaces, (Inside we are essentially a three storey building!)
the Mainstage and the Studio. Please refer to Seating Plans for the layout of the seats.
The Mainstage is accessed immediately as you come into the box office area. It has two
entrances – one from the box office and the other entrance is accessed via the bar.
We call this the tunnel entrance. This entrance can be very useful if you are ever
unavoidably late for a performance.
Theatre Bar
The Fortune has a bar on the same level as the box office and mainstage theatre.
It is open one hour prior to a performance, at interval and after the show on Fridays
and Saturday or other special occasions. You are able to pre-order your drinks for
interval to avoid the queue. It is a great place to meet and chat to the actors
and director after the performance, especially after an opening night.
Coffee Bar
These facilities are right beside the bar. It is staffed by volunteers from members
of the Fortune Members Society, and income generated from here contributes to their
wonderful fundraising efforts during the year. They serve coffee, tea and hot
chocolate. Ice cream is provided by the Gourmet Ice Cream company and they have
some astounding flavours on offer. They also sell chocolate bars and other sweets.
Toilets
These are located on the ground floor of the theatre and are accessed via a spiral
staircase located at the end of the bar area. They do have access for disabled patrons,
and entrance is via the Moray place stage door.
Information about the Plays
A programme is available for purchase at each production. They will include information
about the director, actors, playwright and the production staff. These are sold in the
box office and the bar area. They are generally sold for $2.00 each.
We also produce an annual season brochure. This has detailed information about each play and when the play will be performed during the year. This is perfect if you want to plan ahead. If you cannot see one of these in the theatre when you come please ask at the box office.
We can send information to you about the upcoming plays either through the post or via email. Just give your details to the box office staff if you would like to do this.
