Stand-up comedy with Jeremy Elwood & Jamie Bowen
22 July 2007
We Need To Laugh More!
Stand-up Comedy is back at the Fortune on Sunday July 22 at 8pm. Featuring the comedic talents of Jamie Bowen and Dunedin favorite Jeremy Elwood!
Jamie Bowen
Probably the most energetic comedian on the NZ scene, there is no mistaking when Jamie Bowen hits the stage. With a blend of characters, songs, stories and stand up, Jamie has a unique style that will stick in your memory long after the house lights have come up.
Jamie holds the distinction of being the only comedian to be nominated for the Billy T Award as both part of a group, sketch legends “Gary” and as a solo act in 2006 and 2007. Also a winner of the NZ Comedy Guild award for “Most Improved Comedian” in 2006, his rising star reached a new high in 2007 with his sell-out solo show I Do These Things So You Don’t Have To, highlights of which appeared on Maori Televisions Billy T Award special.
As well as performing all over NZ, Jamie has also taken his comedy overseas, with numerous performances in Melbourne and a season with the NZ Comedy Showcase at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has also appeared on NZ Television’s Pulp Comedy, The TV2 Comedy Gala, and Who’s Your Mate?
Jeremy Elwood
Well known to Dunedin audiences as a comedian, musician and actor, Jeremy returns to the South after a huge 2006 thus far. In February he travelled to the UK for appearances at Jongleurs, The Comedy Store, The Stand (Scotland), and filmed an episode of The World Stands Up, a US cable TV show which airs in the UK, US and Australia. He followed these shows up with appearances at the Los Angeles Comedy Store, and Vancouver’s legendary Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club. On his return to these shores, Jeremy dove straight into the NZ International Comedy Festival, performing sell-out seasons of his brand new solo show Passport Control in Wellington and Dunedin, and touring nationally with the Comedy Convoy. In April he became New Zealand’s first internationally Featured Comedian on the web phenomenon myspace.
