Duets

20 February – 14 March, 2009

PETER QUILTER

Peter Quilter writes his plays at his home on an exotic isle. He is known for his sarcasm, wit and warmth and laid back attire. He first began writing professionally with the Royal Court Group. In the Official London Theatre Guide of 2005 he comments. “Because they were taking me seriously as a writer, I started to take myself seriously.”

UK born he had worked as a ‘Jester’ before moving into children’s television and from there the leap to wildly successful contemporary Playwright.

His plays have been universal and widely loved: From the West End to Warsaw, Prague, Cape Town, indeed most cosmopolitan cities, and now, Dunedin. After the Fortune’s Performance of his latest play, duets, the Ensemble Theatre Company has programmed the play into their 2009 season.

His collection of plays include: Respecting your Piers, The Canterville Ghost, he made his West End Debut with a comedy about a pop group, Boy Band . Glorious (2005) ran in London for 6 months and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award as best new comedy. It is currently playing world wide in Canada, Germany, Poland and USA. End of the Rainbow (2005) premiered in Sydney Opera House to rave reviews and the following year won awards at the Edinburgh Festival. Both plays garnered accolades for cast members.
