VULGAR, FUNNY & MUSICALLY SATISFYING - BOOK YOUR SEAT NOW!

IF YOU’RE of a prudish disposition, Confessions of a Pop Tart may not be for you.
But if you’re just like the rest of us and the idea of a riotous night at the theatre appeals, book your seat now!
First seen in Dunedin in March, singing comics the Funky Hot Mamas (Leigh Wilson and Lou Days) have changed their show a little, but it’s just as vulgar, as funny, and as musically satisfying as before.
The plumpish 30-somethings are still wearing silly, too-small outfits (when they’re not wearing hideous muu-muus) and Marge-hair wigs, and their set, while not exactly the same, is still gorgeously detailed.
The Maas’ stage personalities have developed. Days is the aggressive one – gleefully coarse with a bossiness that extends beyond the stage when she demands (and gets) audience participation, and not the slightest aversion to looking absolutely ridiculous. Wilson comes across as the demure sidekick who does as she’s told, sings like an angel, and steals more than her share of the show. Their songs are mostly ‘60’s and ‘70’s standards and, from These boots are made for Walking and Hit the road Jack
to the It’s raining men finale, Friday night’s audience couldn’t get enough.
Observing the rest of the audience provided a different kind of interest – watching even the most staidly middle-aged shaking off any inhibitions they might have brought in with them.
The Funky Hot Mamas are set to charm Dunedin audiences until Saturday August 4.
