Education at the Fortune Theatre

The Fortune is an excellent place for young people to learn and explore the theatre. We provide a range of options for schools as EOTC experiences. Come and experience a tour around the theatre, join our ambassador programme, take part in our forum debates, talk to the cast and crew of a production or book a drama workshop. Our education workshops are show specific and are designed to link to a range of subjects within the New Zealand Curriculum and to NCEA achievement standards. Inquiries are always welcome; contact the education coordinator at marketing@fortunetheatre.co.nz

Drama ambassador programme

This is a successful programme which started in 2005 with 19 schools in the Otago and Southland region taking part. Each school in the region nominates one or two students per term to be their Drama Ambassador. The Ambassador programme is designed to engage students with the theatre through the opportunity to attend rehearsals, complimentary tickets to the shows with the responsibility to review each production. The Drama Ambassadors have the opportunity to meet and discuss the production at each post show forum. To join the Drama Ambassador Programme contact; the education coordinator at marketing@fortunetheatre.co.nz

Forum

Forums provide students with an opportunity to hear from the cast and crew of each production. The students are able to ask questions and discuss the themes presented. The forums are open to students, Drama Ambassadors, invited guests and the public. The event is usually held on the first Tuesday evening of the season. To register for this great chance to gain insight into the play contact marketing@fortunetheatre.co.nz

Resources for Teachers

Currently this is under development.

At present we aim to have a CD Rom of productions available which will include the programme, reviews and production photographs with an accompanying text of suggested classroom activities. The CD Rom will be available for most productions for a small cost.

Another resource that will be developed for teachers is an education pack specifically for the season of Roald Dahl's The Witches. The activities pack will include specific curriculum links to the arts and social studies documents.
